 | Hi, and welcome to Mr. Quinn's Class dot com. That's me in the picture. The bald one.I am a teacher at Noble High School in North Berwick,
Maine. I'm teaching sophomore algebra and geometry as well as a section of statistics this year. This page is intended to be a central place for access to information that might
be useful to students and parents, with news, assignments, and other class-related content. Links are to the right, news is below. Enjoy! |
Week 15: 18 - 22 December
Monday, December 18, 2006
We've made it!! One more week of hard work, and we all get to rest until the new year. I don't know about you, but from where I sit, this year has absolutely flown by.
I'm writing this from my house, getting over a cold I've had all weekend. Sorry for messing up everyone's schedule, but we should recover and be fine.
Algebra will be working this week on exponential functions, including a look at growth and decay. This is a fun topic, but a calculator is absolutely necessary, so make sure you bring yours.
Stats will finish their simulation project, and then look at how it might have been done differently.

Week 14: 11 - 15 Dec
I'm turning the stats boat in the direction of something that's not in the book but which is really useful and interesting: simulations. We'll start on a project designed to let you get your hands on some real work and also get your heads around like 30 different things at once. It'll be great.
Algebra is going to look at the quadratic formula this week. I'll derive it monday, because the first time i derived it was the first time i really got what math is all about. It's a short week, with a half day on friday, so we should be able to catch our breaths a bit.
Also, progress reports close friday, so let's keep current, and let's keep me happy, OK?

Week 13: December 4 - 8
Monday, December 04, 2006
Stats -- which has been actually studying probability -- will have a test this week. I prefer to do things via project, but given the new 'common assessment' way of doing business, I don't always have the flexibility I'd like to. Still, I think this is a pretty good test, and I'm confident that with Tuesday's recap, we're going to do well.
Algebra has an orphan probability day on monday, and then on thursday will turn to the joy of the quadratic equation. Yay!
