Week 4: Back From Break!
Sunday, February 26, 2006
We're back from break, and we're looking at almost 8 weeks without a day off. This seems like a tough stretch, but the way to think of it is as an opportunity to really build up some steam and do some uninterrupted learning. And it's worth noting that baseball starts in just 35 days, so there's that to look forward to.
Calculus is going to be looking at area quite a bit, as we muscle through to the end of the course content. We'll be turning to exam prep around the end of the first week in april, so we really need to keep our heads down and our concentration up for the next month or so. Math B will be looking mostly at algebra for the next month or so, so if you've gotten sick of the geometry, you're in luck.

Term 2, Week 3 Notes
Monday, February 13, 2006
Last week before the break, which means that we're trying to reach a sensible stopping point before our week off.
Calculus will be learning (drumroll please) the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus!!!! It's exactly that exciting, too. Math B will be looking at more trig identities -- in particular, the half-angle and angle addition/subtraction formulas. Not quite as exciting, but pretty useful, too.

Coffee
Tuesday, February 07, 2006
Many of you have asked me about my coffee. I make it myself because, as you probably won't learn later in life, most of what gets sold as 'coffee' is pretty terrible. I'm a coffee achiever, and i take it pretty seriously.
If you'd like more information on coffee, and how it is supposed to taste, try here. If you're not at home, it is generally agreed that for some reason Dunkin Donuts makes coffee that is far better than it needs to be, but that their donuts are only OK.
Starbucks is good, but on the expensive side, and they seem to believe that a cappuccino should come in a size called 'venti', which is italian for 'ginormous'. it should not. order the short cappuccino. it's all you really want anyway, it's not on the menu, because it's a secret, and it's cheaper.

Term 2, Week 2 Notes
Sunday, February 05, 2006
In the two weeks remaining before winter break -- conveniently placed to do away with any momentum we might build up at the beginning of the term -- 11th graders will work with the double and half-angle formulae, and 12th graders will begin simple applications of the integral. This week moves us in those directions, and this week also starts up our weekly homework schedule. Naturally, all of these things are available here, so please take what you need and email me if there are any gaps remaining.
