Week 12 Notes

Saturday, November 26, 2005

After a few weeks of freaky 3-day weeks and holidays, we're starting on a four-week stretch of regular school. Calculus will start with an examination of situational problem solving and a recap of geometry facts. B will begin looking at exponents, in greater detail than perhaps you're used to. And statistics will start looking at variance in more depth.

Hooray!

Week 10 Notes

Saturday, November 12, 2005

Parent-teacher conferences have come and gone, which means that we're over a third of the way through the term. Time's really flying, isn't it?

Calculus is going really well, and we're going to finish with our initial study of methods of differentiation this week. We'll look at the chain rule and trig functions. B is continuing with triangle proofs, and stats will be talking about the comparison of two numerical variables.

Week 9 Notes

Sunday, November 06, 2005

It's yet another one of those short weeks that makes instruction so very effective. Sigh. Not for nothing, and I love democracy, but I'm not sure they have to close every school in the city so people can vote on tuesday. Cancel gym, put everyone in study halls that period, and let the rest of the day go on as it normally would. We're all trying to learn, and the entire thing smacks of the attitude that we don't want the reg'lar folks seeing what goes on in our schools.

Anyway. Here's homework that's not due until next wednesday, and some lectures for B and calculus. B will take a practice Regents on Wednesday, which I'll post then. Statistics will be finishing the Bowen student-teacher analysis monday, and having their midterm exam on thursday, so no lectures there this week.
